The main focus of this programme is to ensure that all participants increase their confidence and capability in the core skills and responsibilities of an effective school leader. The course will empower participants to develop a strong network to support them as Headteachers.
Participants are assessed through a written assignment to ensure that they have reached the qualification requirements, plus a viva interview to assess them against the more challenging Ambition bar.
The programme comprises a series of training sessions, along with pre- and post-reading, a nine-day school placement and an in-school impact project.

In order for both aspiring and serving Headteachers to receive their qualification, they will need to complete the project element of this qualification successfully. This is in two parts:
It is therefore essential that the school understands the level of support they will need to put in place when they are placing participants on the programme.
Target audience: Deputy Headteachers who are aspiring to headship and meet the following eligibility criteria:
The DfE have confirmed availability of scholarship funding for NPQs for the 2019-20 financial year (April 2019 - April 2020).
All participants who work in a school which is in a category 5 or 6 development area, or who work in a MAT that has AT LEAST ONE school in a category 5 or 6 development area, are eligible for the scholarship. This means that a participant will be eligible for the scholarship even if they themselves are not in a category 5 or 6 school, so long as their MAT has a least one school in either of these areas. This school does not need to be involved in your NPQ programme to make your entire MAT eligible.
