Code: REA-714 Autumn 2019 - 2020 NQT Mentor Training at Five Spires

This programme gives NQT mentors the tools needed to effectively support and drive the development of our newest teachers. We know that high quality mentoring support is fundamental in giving NQTs a successful start to a career in teaching, and ahead of the statutory national implementation of the Early Career Framework (ECF) in 2021, this programme enables mentors to:
• understand the specialist support required by early career teachers
• develop a toolkit of mentoring strategies, underpinned by REAch2 Touchstones
• support and drive the progress of early career teachers from their given starting points
This programme features one Core Day’s training followed by termly online mentor networks to share best practice in early career mentoring and further develop mentoring knowledge and skills. An enhanced development day is offered to further develop thinking and best practice.

This practical session will develop participants’ mentoring toolkits, enabling them to have a rapid impact on the progress of the teachers they mentor, and in turn the children they teach. The session will focus on:
• understanding how effective early career mentoring sits within a coaching and mentoring framework
• understanding the needs of early career teachers and the Early Career Framework
• the scope and sequence of early career teacher development and how best to accelerate this
• how to effectively structure mentoring conversations and give high-impact, bite-sized feedback
